Dive into a whimsical underwater world as you create a vibrant mermaid pillow filled with color, texture, and personality. Using layered appliqué, decorative stitching, quilting, and embellishment techniques, you'll bring two playful mermaids to life while learning skills that can be applied to future art quilts and decorative projects.
Students will explore fabric selection, layering, dimensional details, quilting motifs, and finishing techniques as they create a one-of-a-kind pillow. From shimmering tails and flowing hair to seashell accents and colorful blooms, every pillow becomes a unique reflection of its maker.
A pattern and design guide will be provided, allowing students to focus on creativity and construction while enjoying a fun, supportive learning environment. Learn how to incorporate elements such as decorative stitching, mixed fibers, and surface embellishments to create depth and movement.
Paula will demonstrate finishing techniques to transform your embellished quilt top into a polished, professional pillow—perfect for display or as a one-of-a-kind statement piece.

Bring your fabric to life in this immersive, technique-driven workshop inspired by Paula's award-winning quilt Karma Chameleon: Guardian of the Bloom. Students will create a vibrant 24" x 24" textile art piece while exploring two signature techniques: layer-and-stitch collage and confetti quilting.
The chameleon will be constructed using a guided layer and stitch method, where fabric shapes are built up, secured, and enhanced with machine appliqué and free-motion stitching to create depth, movement, and intricate surface detail.
The forest floor comes alive through texture and tulle overlay quilting—a playful yet richly textural process where bits of fabric and yarn are layered beneath tulle and stitched to create a dimensional, organic landscape.
Students will work from a provided image and Easy Pattern overlay, allowing for creative interpretation while ensuring a successful composition. Emphasis is placed on color, value, and texture to achieve a dynamic, one-of-a-kind result.
The finished piece can be completed as a striking wall hanging or transformed into a decorative art pillow.
Kit Includes: Pattern, printed chameleon design image, Easy Pattern overlay, specialty fabrics and fibers, tulle, and Misty Fuse.
